Data Controller
Living Systems GmbH, Wollankstraße 101, 13187 Berlin, Germany, is responsible for your personal data on timber.computer under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us at legal@living.systems.
Timber Computer has no user accounts, forms or newsletter, sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics, tracking, advertising or social media plugins. The sections below describe everything the site does with your data.
Visiting the Website
This website is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (USA), which processes the data your browser sends with each request, including your IP address, to deliver and protect the site. If a request looks automated, Cloudflare may ask your browser to pass a check and keeps the result in a security cookie (cf_clearance) for 30 minutes; the site needs that protection, so it needs no consent (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). We set no other cookies and keep no access logs. Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
To show the site in its typeface, ABC Monument Grotesk, your browser loads the font file from living.systems, our company website, which is also hosted by Cloudflare. That request transmits your IP address and browser details to Cloudflare in the same way; living.systems keeps no access logs either.
We do this on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure, reliable site and presenting it the way we designed it (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You do not have to give us any data, but the site cannot load without your IP address.
Websites we link to receive no data from us until you click the link.
Your Selection
The configurator keeps your current selection and its result in your browser's local storage (entries whose names start with timberComputerStored), so they are still there when you open the result page or come back later. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. Because this storage is needed to provide the configurator you are using, we do not ask for consent for it (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). If your browser blocks site data, the links to the result page carry your selection in their address instead, and nothing is stored.
Sharing a Result
"Share Result" creates a link to your result page that contains only the ids of the elements you chose, and hands it to your device's share menu. Where there is none, it copies the link to your clipboard instead, or, if it cannot, opens it in your email program. We receive nothing when you share. The app or service you share through handles the link under its own terms, and anyone who opens it loads the result page like any other visitor.
Contacting Us by Email
If you email us, we use your address and message to reply. Our email runs on Google Workspace, so messages you send us are stored there and may be processed in the USA under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. We keep them only as long as needed or required by law (Article 6(1)(b), (c) and (f) GDPR).
No Automated Decisions
Your CO₂ result is calculated in your browser. We do not use automated decision-making or profiling (Article 22 GDPR).
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. To use these rights, email legal@living.systems. You can also complain to a data protection authority; ours is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
You can object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on our legitimate interests, such as hosting (Article 21(1) GDPR). We will then stop, unless we have compelling legitimate grounds that outweigh your interests or need the data for legal claims. To object, email legal@living.systems.
